A.B. Curtiss was born in 1868 and spent his childhood on a farm near Wooster, Ohio. He attended college at Northwestern University, receiving his B.A., M.A., Ph.D., in 1891, 1895, and 1906 respectively. He taught at Ohio Wesleyan University from 1890-1906 and at Case Western Reserve University from 1906-1922
From 1922-1949 he was the President of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He died in 1949.
